3D prints attempt WIP
This is me trying to remember what I learned at the start of the year because I forgot booo. Keeping notes because I will forget again.
By chance I found out that there was an online event on BOOTH where artists could sell their GKs and going through the catalogue out of curiousity was very inspiring? I thought to myself "No one will ever cater to my taste except me!" even though that's something I always knew (stupid!) so this is where I ended up feeling motivated or maybe even spiteful again.
I considered a lot of stuff I'd love to do eventually but wanted to settle with something doable first. Their tails are supposed to shape a heart when sat next to each other.
General Blender setup.
- ver 4.5
- relevant add-ons: extra mesh objects, loop tools
Blocking out shape.
- Body: Cube(s)
- Head: Round Cube (extra mesh objects)
- Tail: Single Vert with Skin modifier for general shape. Extrude with Ctrl+E, adjust thickness with Alt+S.
- Face details are placeholders.
- Do not use Cylinders. Very bad idea.
- Hair: Curve→Bezier and add the Curve→Circle as profile under Bevel→Object. Add enough geometry to the profile to avoid having to add them later on.
Check "Fill Caps" for a closed mesh. Again extrude with Ctrl+E, adjust thickness with Alt+S.
Useful shortcuts I will probably forget.
- Shift+D to duplicate selected vertices
- V to Free handles, when editing the circle curve
- V to Rip mesh at selection
At some point I spent a day with legwork to register with the public libraries. Some of them have 3D printers for use.
I desperately looked for an alternative way to do the hair. There is none. Bezier curve is seemingly the best modeling option.
Arrange the hair strands to the hair flow. Side bangs should somewhat follow the x-axis? Follow basic anatomy (suffer)
Also Ctrl+R to add geometry and model a proper chin.
I was surprised to see how the light from above would fall and reflect on the lower half of face with this. Weird how much aligning the hair strands did. Cool!
So how the f do I actually do this.
